Ahmed works as a carpet seller in the Istanbul Grand Bazaar. He proudly explained to me that he had several years of experience as a carpet seller in the bazaar, having started off in the business as an apprentice at the age of 13. At the time of our meeting in 2017, he was 36 years old and a father of two young children. For him, one of the joys of working in the bazaar was that every day he met new people, from all around the world. Indeed, he had sold rugs to the famous among them: Hollywood stars, inter- nationally acclaimed footballers and powerful politicians. Like many carpet sellers, he displayed their photos in his stall.
